History
Creation: Area code 664 was assigned to Montserrat on April 22, 1996 and went into service on July 1, 1996, as part of the Caribbean split from the original 809 area code. A permissive dialing period during which either 809 or 664 could be used ran until June 1, 1997. Montserrat's telecom infrastructure was reshaped in the late 1990s after the Soufrière Hills volcanic eruption forced abandonment of the former capital Plymouth, with services consolidating in the northern settlements of Brades, Salem, and Little Bay.
Predecessor: Before 664, numbers in Montserrat used 809.

How to call Montserrat
No 011 prefix needed — Montserrat is part of the NANP, so calls dial like a domestic North American number. Long-distance and roaming charges still apply.
Use your country's international access code (00 in most of Europe, 0011 in Australia), then 1, the 664 area code, and the local number.
Domestic calls use seven digits — no area code prefix needed.
