Creation: Area code 345 was assigned to the Cayman Islands and went into service on September 1, 1996, as the 177th area code in the NANP. It was created by splitting Cayman numbers out of the shared Caribbean area code 809. A permissive dialing period during which either 809 or 345 could be used ran until August 31, 1997, after which 345 dialing became mandatory.
